This book is the only user-oriented book on SPSS:

• It uses a series of pictures and simple instructions to teach each procedure. Users can conduct procedures by following the graphically illustrated examples. The book is designed for the novice - even those who are inexperienced with SPSS, statistics, or computers. Though its content leans toward econometric analysis, the book can be used by those in varied fields, such as market research, criminology, public policy, management, business administration, nursing, medicine, psychology, sociology, anthropology, etc.

• Each method is taught in a step-by-step manner

• An analytical thread is followed throughout the book - the goal of this method is to show users how to combine different procedures to maximize the benefits of using SPSS.

• To ensure simplicity, the book does not get into the details of statistical procedures. Nor does it use mathematical notation or lengthy discussions. Though it does not qualify as a substitute for a statistics text, users may find that the book contains most of the statistics concepts they will need to use.

This version of SPSS: Analysis Without Anguish, is based on Version 12.0 of SPSS for Windows. SPSS software is being continually modified and improved but the steps of entering and analysing data remain similar. New features to SPSS 12.0 include better reporting capabilities through a new presentation graphics system and improved data and output management that provides greater flexibility and more options when managing data.

This practical text addresses the needs of all users of SPSS software. It serves as an introduction to new users but allows those wishing to undertake more complicated analytical procedures to work through each stage. It steps users through all the necessary techniques and procedures and the extensive use of screen displays make it possible for students to use this book unsupervised. Worked examples illustrate the procedures, and practice examples allow users to consolidate their skills. Assumption testing for each procedure is discussed early in each chapter and the appropriate data screening methods are outlined prior to the analysis and interpretation of the output.

lol!

"SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGY: The Logistics of Supply Chain Management teaches the best practices and basics in logistics and supply chain management. The book is richly illustrated with 238 figures featuring logistics principles in action at the world’s best logistics organizations. In a conversational style, the book presents best-practice, common-sense, high-tech, high-touch, and analytical solutions for logistics challenges spanning the entire supply chain. From customer service to inventory planning to supply to transportation to warehousing, Supply Chain Strategy puts the logic back in logistics!

The book is organized according to Dr. Edward Frazelle’s Logistics Master Planning methodology for developing supply chain strategy. Three major sections address the investigation, innovation, and implementation of logistics solutions to supply chain problems. In so doing, the book presents
simultaneously a methodology for planning and managing logistics activities while illustrating world-class practices and systems in use by logistics organizations around the globe. In addition, each chapter stands alone in addressing the major issues in logistics data mining, logistics performance measurement, customer response, inventory planning and management, supply management, transportation, warehousing, logistics information systems, and logistics organization design and development"

"This is a textbook about logistics. It describes the way that materials move into an organisation from suppliers, through the operations within an organisation, and then out to customers. As you can see, we take a broad view of logistics, looking at every kind of ‘organisation’, moving every kind of ‘material’.

We talk about manufacturers moving tangible goods – and service providers moving materials for their intangible services.
Every organisation needs a reliable flow of materials. Logistics is an essential function, and managers have to make the movement of materials as efficient and effective as possible. This is best done by an integrated function that is responsible for all aspects of material movement. The results are important, as they directly affect customer service, costs – and just about every other measure of performance.
Logistics is not contained within an organisation, but has a unique position in linking external suppliers and customers. Organisations increasingly recognise that they do not work in isolation, but form part of a supply chain whose aim is to satisfy customers. To emphasise this broader role, some people prefer to talk about ‘supply chain management’.

This is a particularly fast-moving field. Developments in operations – such as just-in-time, lean operations, efficient customer response, enterprise resource planning, e-commerce, globalisation, and increasing customer service – are rapidly changing the demands on logistics. This book gives an up-todate view of logistics, emphasising current trends and developments. It covers important issues, such as:

● increasing strategic importance of logistics
● global operations and increasing international competition
● integration of organisations and activities in the supply chain
● changing requirements from logistics to deal with new types of operations
● better communications allowing closer co-ordination of movements
● new requirements from aspects of e-commerce
● increasing emphasis on quality and customer-based service
● environmental concerns.

APPROACH OF THE BOOK

The book gives an introduction to logistics. It can be used by anyone who is meeting the subject for the first time. You might be a student taking a course in business studies, or another subject that needs some knowledge of logistics – or you might read the book to learn more about a central area of management

The book gives a broad description of logistics, covering all the main concepts. It discusses the topics in enough depth to provide material for a complete course, but it does not get bogged down in too much detail. By concentrating on key issues, we have kept the text to a reasonable length.
The book has a number of features. It:

● is an introductory text and assumes no previous knowledge of logistics or experience of management
● can be used by many types of student, or people studying by themselves
● takes a broad view, covering all types of organisation ● sets logistics within its strategic context
● describes a lot of material, concentrating on topics that you will meet in practice
● develops the contents in a logical order
● is practical, presenting ideas in a straightforward way, avoiding abstract discussions
● illustrates principles by examples drawn from international organisations
● includes a range of features, including chapter aims, examples of logistics in practice, case studies, projects, worked examples, chapter reviews, problems, discussion questions and useful readings
● is written clearly, presenting ideas in an informative and easy style.

CONTENTS

The book follows a logical path through the decisions of logistics. An obvious problem is that the topics are all related, and decisions are made simultaneously rather than consecutively. In the book we effectively have to make a linear journey through a complex web of material. To make this easier, we have divided the book into three parts. The first part gives an overall introduction to logistics. It defines key terms, discusses the role of logistics, its aims, importance, trends and the general context of supply chain management. It shows how logistics has developed into a single, integrated function.
The second part looks at the planning for a supply chain. This starts with the design of a logistics strategy, and then shows how this strategy can be implemented. Important decisions include the structure of the supply chain and the location, number and size of facilities. These decisions lead to lower level plans to organise activities and resources. The supply chain keeps changing, so we look at ways of measuring and improving the performance of logistics.
The third part of the book focuses on some specific functions of logistics, including procurement, inventory management, warehousing, transport of materials and international logistics.
Together these chapters cover some of the most important decisions made in any organisation"

Essentials of Inventory Management and Control has been written to introduce the (i) new stockroom/warehouse manager; (ii) non-financial inventory control individual; or (iii) the small business owner to the fundamental nature of inventory from a financial, physical, forecasting, and operational standpoint. The ultimate goal of this book is to present immediately usable information in the areas of forecasting, physical control and layout, problem recognition, and resolution. These materials
should enable you to:

• Understand that modern practice discourages holding large quantities of inventory and encourages only having amounts on-hand required for current needs.

• Grasp the significance of controlling actual, on-hand inventory as both a physical object (shelf count) and as an intangible object (record count and monetary worth).

• Understand the fundamental differences between finished goods inventories in the retail/distribution sectors and raw materials and work-in-process inventories found in the manufacturing environment.

Logistic models are widely used in economics and other disciplines and are easily available as part of many statistical software packages. This text for graduates, practitioners and researchers in Economics, Medicine and Statistics, explains the theory underlying logit analysis and gives a thorough explanation of the technique of estimation. The author has provided many empirical applications as illustrations and worked examples. A large data set - drawn from Dutch car ownership statistics - is provided online for readers to practise the techniques they have learned. Several varieties of logit model have been developed independently in various branches of biology, medicine and other disciplines. This book takes its inspiration from logit analysis as it is practised in economics, but it also pays due attention to developments in these other fields.

ce e-book est trés utile surtout pour les collégues qui travaillent sur les modéles du choix modales.
Bonne lecture

Logistics, the subject of this monograph, is narrowly defined here to be the science that studies how to convey items from production to consumption in cost-effective ways; some subjects of interest to logistics managers such as reliability and maintenance are not addressed. The theories that are covered, on the other hand, apply to generic items that can represent people, as well as freight; they should be of interest to passenger transportation firms and agencies.

Besides transportation, a logistics system usually includes other activities such as inventory control, handling, and sorting, which must be carefully coordinated if cost- effectiveness is to be achieved. Yet, both in theory and practice these activities are often examined separately.

The operations research field includes sub-fields with specialized journals in inventory control, transportation, warehousing, etc... Over the years, these sub-fields have evolved into disciplines that have developed their own specialized conventions and jargon, as a result making it increasingly difficult for researchers to communicate across disciplinary boundaries. Something similar happens in practice when firms become compartmentalized; if responsibilities for different logistical activities are allocated to different managers, decisions in the best interests of the firm are difficult (if not impossible) to make.
The first two chapters introduce preliminary ideas. Chapter 1 illustrates, by means of an example, the problem solving philosophy of the monograph, and Chapter 2 explains the accounting method for logistics costs. Chapters 3 through 6 describe the theory as is applied to gradually more complex problems. Chapter 3 explains the optimization method in detail and illustrates it with a problem involving only one origin and one destination. Chapter 4 examines problems with one origin and many destinations (or vice versa), assuming that each item travels in only one vehicle; Chapter 5 allows for transshipments at intermediate terminals. Finally, Chapter 6 examines "many-to- many" problems.

"The present book focuses on the application of operational research and mathematical modelling techniques to logistics and supply chain management (SCM) problems. The authors performed a substantial revision of the 1st edition and included a number of new subjects … . The book is carefully written and is an important reference for readers with a solid background in probability and optimisation theory … . the present book should be seen as a valuable guide describing techniques that can be applied or adapted to real-life situations." (Teresa Melo, OR News, Issue 25, 2005)

Book Description
Fierce competition in today's global market provides powerful motivation for developing ever more sophisticated logistics systems. This book, written for the logistics manager and researcher, presents a survey of the modern theory and application of logistics.

Part I considers the basic performance analysis techniques. In particular, tools required to perform worst-case and average-case analysis are discussed. Part II then covers vehicle routing problems and Part III concentrates on production and inventory problems. Part IV considers hierarchical problems in logistics networks and, in particular, the integration of different levels of decisions. Finally, Part V describes case studies in which decision support tools for the design and management of large-scale logistic systems are developed and used.

The result is a timely and authoritative survey of this field which many practitioners and researchers will find to be an invaluable companion to their work.

Graph Theory is a very well-written book, now in its third edition and the recipient of the according evolutionary benefits. It succeeds dramatically in its aims, which Diestel gives as "[providing] a reliable first introduction to graph theory that can be used for personal study or as a course text, [and] a graduate text that offers some depth in selected areas." ... Even the pictures and drawings are nice. This is a hell of a good book!

MAA, Reviews

"This book covers all of the central topics of modern graph theory. … it is strongly recommended as a textbook for graduate students in mathematics. It would also be welcomed by more advanced readers who wish to quickly obtain deeper knowledge … . The book is written very carefully and in clear style. … At the end of each chapter, there is a section with a set of challenging problems and some historical and bibliographical notes that bring benefit to readers with deeper interest." (Gabriel Semanisin, Mathematical Reviews, Issue 2006 e)

Book Description

The third edition of this highly successful textbook has been carefully revised and updated, and includes a new chapter on infinite graphs. The book covers all major, recent developments, and can be used both as a reliable textbook for an introductory course and as a graduate text: on each topic it covers all the basic material in full detail, and adds one or two deeper results (again with detailed proofs) to illustrate the more advanced methods of that field.

From the reviews of the first two editions (1997, 2000):

"This outstanding book cannot be substituted with any other book on the present textbook market. It has every chance of becoming the standard textbook for graph theory."

Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum

"The book has received a very enthusiastic reception, which it amply deserves. A masterly elucidation of modern graph theory."

Bulletin of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications

"A highlight of the book is what is by far the best account in print of the Seymour-Robertson theory of graph minors."

Mathematika

". . . like listening to someone explain mathematics."
